Day 1: Tbilisi – Maradiuli winery – Katskhi – Mghvimevi – Shalvaseuli
Day 2: Chikha – Modinakhe Fortress – Kvereti – Tbilisi
The program
Day 1: Tbilisi – Maradiuli winery – Katskhi Pillar – Mghvimevi Monastery – Chikha
Meet your guide and drive to Imereti region. The first stop will be at Maradiuli wine cellar https://shorturl.at/bfdAV where you will try natural Imeretian wines and have a traditional lunch there. The host and wine maker will meet you and share his experience and knowledge. After lunch and wine tasting visit Katskhi Pillar – a natural limestone monolith rising approximately 40 meters above the ground. This striking geological formation is notable not only for its impressive height but also for its historical and religious significance. On the top of pillar is built a small church dated back to 9-10th century, restored in the 1990s. later you will visit Mghvimevi Monastery built into the cliffs and nestled in a scenic gorge, the monastery dates back to the 13th century and showcases the rich architectural and cultural heritage of medieval Georgia. The complex includes a church, several chapels, and living quarters for monks. The frescoes in the main church are well-preserved showing the artistic traditions of that time. Day 2: Chikha – Modinakhe Fortress – Kvereti – Tbilisi
After breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to visit Modinakhe fortress – built in 19th century by Papuna Tsereteli. According to rumors nobleman Papuna wanted to marry the daughter of nobleman David Abashidze, who refused as Papuna had no fortess in his kingdom. So, he built one and asked his future father-in-low to come and see – Georgian translation of Modinakhe. From here you will continue horseback riding into the forest of Sachkhere mountain with diverse flora and fauna, scenic landscapes, and tranquil environments. The duration of total ride is about 4 hours. After riding into the forest, you will reach the Sagorisghele river valley and leading to the Jruchula river.
