The itinerary
Day 1: Tbilisi – Ananuri Fortress – Zhinvali Dam – Gudauri – Garbani
Day 2: Garbani – Arsha waterfall – Pansheti tower and old settlement – Gergeti – Garbani
Day 3: Garbani – Tbilisi
The program
Day 1: Tbilisi – Ananuri Fortress – Zhinvali Dam – Gudauri – Garbani
In the morning meet your guide and drive towards Kazbegi region. The first trop will be at Ananuri fortress (14-17 Century) – the main key point of Aragvi Saeristavo. the complex was built strategically in the valleys of two rivers (Aragvi and Verzatkhevi) protecting the whole area from enemies creating the natural gate for defenders. In history of Georgia Ananuri played an important role in numerous of wars. the complex includes several buildings: upper and lower castles, watch- towers, Churches, bell tower and water reservoirs. Nowadays it is overlooking on Zhinvali Dam – built in 1980s with capacity of 130 MW. During the construction the village Zhinvali was flooded. In winter when water level goes down you can see the 12th century church. After visiting Ananuri continue trip to Gudauri – the largest and most modern ski resort in Georgia. The ski slopes are for all levels with limitless opportunities for freestyle and skiing in an open environment. For lunch you will stop at Gudauri hut https://gudaurihut.com/. Later continue drive to small village Garbani and check-in at small guesthouse Hotel Garbani, owned by Giorgi Gujaraidze who is the beneficiary of USAID Resilient Communities Program https://www.facebook.com/HotelGarbani After short rest you can explore Truso valley. You can choose trekking or biking through the Tergi river with magnificent views of Caucasus mountains. The valley is surrounded by rocky peaks, along with volcanic streams. the duration is about 2-3 hrs. Dinner and overnight at guesthouse.
Day 2: Garbani – Arsha waterfall – Pansheti tower and old settlement – Gergeti – Garbani
After breakfast get ready for horseback riding from Arsha to Gergeti trinity church. Meet Irina Sujashvili – the beneficiary of USAID Resilient Communities Program, who owns horses will lead you during your ride up to Gergeti Trinity Church. The total duration of ride is about 3 hrs. First you will see Arsha waterfall, it’s not visible from village, but hidden in mountains and it’s bursting from ground. Continue your ride and visit Pansheti tower and old settlement. This small village had a historical and strategical location, was defending the right bank of river Tergi. According to legends inhabitants of this village had built Gergeti trinity church and carried stones from here up Gergeti. After exploring the area continue ride up to Gergeti and visit the only cross cupola in Khevi province built in 14th Century. The ensemble includes church itself, belltower and surrounding wall. You can admire staning views from Gergeti and see the Kazbegi mountain. After visiting church, you will meet your drivers of 4X4 cars and drive down o village Stepantsminda. Here you will have lunch at small family run restaurant “Lunch at Maia https://www.facebook.com/lunchatmaia/ beside of lunch you can participate in cooking workshop and make traditional dish Khinkali – Georgian dumpling. After lunch drive to Dariali monastery Complex, located near the border of Russia. Then drive back to Garbani, dinner and overnight at guesthouse.
Day 3: Garbani – Tbilisi
After breakfast check out from the guesthouse and drive back to Tbilisi, end of the tour.
