Mtskheta-Mtianeti is one of the most beautiful parts of Georgia. The historical-geographic provinces are: Khevi, Pshavi, Khevsureti, Mtiuleti, Gudamakari, part of Tskhinvali and Ertso-Tianeti. This mountain region is rich with religious festivals, diverse with its ancient culture, myths, temples, ornamental embroidery clothes, rocky peaks, valleys and lakes.
The itinerary
Day 1: Tbilisi – Ananuri Fortress – Kvesheti
Day 2: Kvesheti – Khada valley – Kvesheti
Day 3: Kvesheti – Bazaleti Lake – Tbilisi
The program
Day 1: Tbilisi – Ananuri Fortress – Kvesheti
In the morning meet your guide and drive to Kvesheti. The first trop will be at Ananuri fortress (14-17 Century) – the main key point of Aragvi Saeristavo. the complex was built strategically in the valleys of two rivers (Aragvi and Verzatkhevi) protecting the whole area from enemies creating the natural gate for defenders. In history of Georgia Ananuri played an important role in numerous of wars. the complex includes several buildings: upper and lower castles, watch- towers, Churches, bell tower and water reservoirs. Nowadays it is overlooking on Zhinvali Dam – built in 1980s with capacity of 130 MW. During the construction the village Zhinvali was flooded. In winter when water level goes down you can see the 12th century church. After excursion continue drive to small village Kvesheti and have a lunch at small local restaurant Mta https://g.co/kgs/45d8ttQ and later you will have a check-in at a small family run guesthouse Zviadi 1 https://shorturl.at/Z8GOs. After short rest get ready for short and easy trekking to Sepe fortress in Sonchoskhevi river valley. The duration of trekking is about 3 hours. And you will see 16th century built Sepe fortress that has 2 levels and was a defending watchtower. Up to the valley you will see Lekatkhevi church built in 18th century, this small church surrounded by stonewall with an amazing picturesque mountains and forest is not easy to notice at a first sight. After trekking dinner will be served at guest house where you also can participate in cooking process. Overnight at guesthouse.
Day 2: Kvesheti – Khada valley – Kvesheti
After breakfast get ready for trekking in Khada valley. The duration of whole trip is about 7 hours. Khada Gorge, nestled below the majestic mountains of Gudauri at the edge of the Caucasus, is indeed a hidden gem. This serene and stunning area was historically significant as part of the Mtliuleti Region, strategically defending the route between the Northern and Southern Caucasus with its 60 towers. Today, visitors can still see some of these ancient towers and graves, and enjoy the beauty of a picturesque waterfalls and a refreshing mineral water springs that are a lot in this valley. The hiking trail through Khada Gorge offers an immersive experience, leading adventurers through breathtaking mountain scenery, rural medieval towers, and beautiful small villages. During the trekking you will have outdoor picnic lunch in the nature.
Dinner and overnight at guesthouse
Day 3: Kvesheti – Bazaleti Lake – Tbilisi
In the morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to Tbilisi. First stop will be at Bazaleti volcanic origin lake is a picturesque freshwater lake surrounded by scenic landscapes. The lake is uniquely fed only by rainwater and mineral springs from below. This distinctive feature contributes to the lake’s clear and tranquil waters. For lunch you will stop at Bazaleti cider club https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61551915436733 beside of delicious lunch you can taste a variety of locally crafted ciders. After lunch drive to Tbilisi, end of the tour.
