The itinerary
Day 1: Tbilisi – Lunch stop at Jruchuli valley – Oni
Day 2: Oni – Sakao – Sakaura valley – Khideshlebi – Oni
Day 3: Oni – Nikotsminda – lunch stop in Terjola – Tbilisi
The program
Day 1: Tbilisi – Lunch stop at Jruchuli valley – Oni
In the morning meet your guide and drive towards Oni. The duration of drive is about 4 hours. The road goes through Khikhata pass and stanning views are opening almost all way. The first stop will be at small family run café near Jruchula river https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61551262438796. Here you will have your lunch and refresh yourself in a beautiful cozy yard of café. After lunch continue drive to Oni. Upon arrival check in at local family hotel “Gallery” https://www.facebook.com/hotelinoni and meet the incredible host Temuri. He is a wood carving master and most of the furniture in the guesthouse is done by the host. In the backyard of hotel, you will see two-century old traditional Oda house with wood carved ornaments, wine cellar and traditional pork smoking room, where the family is making Rachuli ham. After short rest you will have a walking tour in Oni. You will visit museum of local Lore, with artifacts from the Stone Age to the late Feudal period, telling you details about how life was here. In the museum, you will also see a statue of a sheep from the Bronze Age, belt buckles, women’s jewelry, weapons, work tools, and more. Later you will visit Synagogue built in 1895 by a Polish Architect. Oni was to one of the largest and powerful Jewish communities in Georgia. The tour will end at Edena ethnohouse https://www.facebook.com/Edenacraft and participate in felt making process where local craftswomen are creating amazing artworks. Delicious dinner will be served at the hotel.
Day 2: Oni – Sakao – Sakaura valley – Khideshlebi – Oni
In the morning after breakfast drive to small village Sakao and get ready for off road jeep tour up to river Sakaura valley and visit Tetri lake. the route takes you through forests, meadows, and mountainous terrain, offering a diverse and enriching experience. The field around the lake are covered with lush greenery, rare alpine plants and wildflowers are adding more charm and beauty to this area. Here near the lake, you will have an outdoor picnic lunch and then drive back to Oni. After short rest you will visit the folk house https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057400871594 and meet incredibly talented folklorists and traditional musical instrument artisan Tornike. He together with his ensemble “Dziriani” will have a workshop of traditional polyphony singing. Later you will have a traditional Georgian dinner in the yard of folk house. Day 3: Oni – Nikotsminda – lunch stop in Terjola – Tbilisi
In the morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and drive back to Tbilisi. Enroute you will visit Nikortsminda Cathedral and Shaori lake. The first stop will be at Nikortminda Cathedral built in 11th century. The Cathedral has a massive dome and unbroken arcatures as its twelve windows, are richly decorated with ornamented architraves – the most beautiful decorations among the Georgian churches. The interior frescoes date from the 17th century. Later continue your tip and pass Shaori Lake which dazzles you with its landscape. For lunch you will stop at Makaridze wine cellar https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064689190431 for lunch and wine tasting. Gogita Makaridze produces fine natural wine with traditional Georgian methods. Beside of wine tasting you will have a delicious lunch. Keto – the wife of Gogita is a home cook together with her sister-in-low Ela making very special Georgian dishes. After lunch drive back directly to Tbilisi, end of tour.
