The land of Megrelians – Samegrelo – from ancient times was a part of the kingdom of Colchis, famous as the land of Golden Fleece. The oldest principalities of Georgia, this region belonged to Dadiani Family. beside of rich historical, cultural monuments and amazing nature – the Megrelian cuisine is outstanding, the flavors and dishes that can’t be forgotten. 

 

The itinerary

Day 1: Tbilisi – Dadiani castle – ethno village “Sisatura” – Zugdidi

Day 2: Zugdidi – Khamiskuri fortress – Papntskvilo lake – Chkhaia waterfall – Tbilisi

Day 1: Tbilisi – Dadiani castle – ethno village “Sisatura” – Zugdidi

  • Meet your guide
  • Drive to Samegrelo town Zugdidi
  • Lunch stop at home café in Imereti
  • Visit Dadiani Castle
  • Dinner and cooking class at ethno village Sisatura
  • Overnight at Guesthouse

In the morning meet your guide and drive towards Samegrelo region. On your way you will have a lunch stop at family run restaurant Lia Deida https://www.facebook.com/Liadeida?locale=ka_GE Aunty Lia is a home cook and serves only Imeretian dishes, the recipes she has inherited from her grandmother and are very authentic and delicious. After lunch continue drive to Zugdidi and visit Dadiani Palace – the residency of Dadiani, princes Samegrelo. It’s one of the first European-style palaces built in 17th Century. Nowadays the museum complex consists of palaces of Queen of Samegrelo Ekaterine Chavchavadze-Dadiani and Prince Niko Dadiani, church and the botanical garden. Here you can see unique numismatic materials, Dadiani family collections of medieval European armor and weapons, ethnographic objects, and fine art. Later continue drive to Ethno village Sisatura https://www.facebook.com/SisaturaethnoVillage/ where you will have culinary workshop with incredible Megrelian women, and learn how the famous dish “Elargi” is done – one of the famous and must try food in Samegrelo. After dinner you will have check-in and overnight at guesthouse Green house https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063624247633 

 

Day 2: Zugdidi – Khamiskuri fortress – Papntskvilo lake – Chkhaia waterfall – Tbilisi 

  • Breakfast and check out from guesthouse
  • Visit to a wood craftswoman and workshop
  • Visit Khamiskuri fortress
  • Trekking to Papntskvilo lake
  • Outdoor lunch in nature
  • Drive back to Tbilisi, end of the tour

In the morning after breakfast check out from the guest house and visit a wood craftswoman Tsitsino https://www.facebook.com/Tsitsihandmade this incredible woman is making magnificent arts out of wood and you have an opportunity to meet her and participate in crafting. Then continue drive to Khamiskuri fortress built in 17th century with three towers. The fortress has a round shape unusual for Georgian fortifications. After visiting fortress, you will drive to a small karst lake Papantskviri flowing by rains and groundwaters. The transfarant blue water is reflecting surrounding green pine trees and make a very beautiful sight. Here you will leave your car and start trekking up to Chkaia waterwall, the trail goes through the forest that makes an ideal shade in a hot summer. From the hill you can see the Munchia and Chkhaia river valleys. After about 2 hours hike you will have your outdoor picnic lunch in nature and later meet your driver near village Sakvikvino and continue drive to Tbilisi, end of the tour.
