Svaneti – one of the most famous regions of Georgia, rich with historical and cultural heritage. The land of Golden Flees, where the epic legend of Argonauts took place. The region is famous for its peaks, cliffs, fortified Svan towers, characteristic frescos, traditions, rituals and myths, and independence spirit of Svan people. The Svan culture, language and traditions are remarkably preserved. 

 

The itinerary

Day 1: Tbilisi – Tseronisi – Chuberi

Day 2: Chuberi – Pari – Chuberi 

Day 3: Chuberi – Martvili – Tbilisi

 

The program

 

Day 1: Tbilisi – Tseronisi – Chuberi

  • Meet your guide in Tbilisi and drive to Khaishi
  • First stop will be at small village Tseronisi 
  • Lunch stop at family run restaurant “Lia Deida”
  • Arrival in Khaishi, dinner and overnight at guest house

In the morning meet your guide and drive to Svaneti, village Chuberi. First stop will be at village Tseronisi, where you will meet local farmer and see the peach orchards. Here you will meet Farmer Asmat, and she will share her experience. Upon availability you can participate in farming as well. Later continue drive to Svaneti region. As the whole road needs about 6 hours to reach Chuberi, for lunch and short rest you will stop at a small family run restaurant Lia Deida https://www.facebook.com/Liadeida/  – the meaning of this name is aunt Lia, as she is a cook, who inhabited all her knowledge from her mother and grandmother. Here you will exceptional Imeretian dishes. After lunch you will drive directly to Chuberi. Dinner and overnight at small guesthouse Feel Funny House https://www.facebook.com/FeelFunnyHouse The owner Mikha Pilpani is the beneficiary of USAID Resilient Communities Program 

 

Day 2: Chuberi – Pari – Chuberi 

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Horseback riding along Nenskra river
  • Outdoor picnic lunch during your ride
  • Drive to village Pari for workshop to see how svanetian soap and hat are made
  • Visit Narchvi Danili cheese small factory and dinner
  • Drive to Chuberi 
  • Overnight at guest house in Chuberi

After breakfast get ready to explore Chuberi surroundings by horseback riding. The pass goes up to Nenskra river, the mountains are massive and nature is unbelievably beautiful. The final destination is Kirari camp with stunning views in all direction. Here you will have outdoor picnic lunch and short rest to admire the landscape. Latter ride back to Chuberi. The total duration of horseback riding is about 3-3.5 hrs. From here you will drive to a small village Pari. Here you will meet Chito, who is making traditional svanetian soap, she will share her knowledge and will show the method how the soap is done. Later you will visit a local woman who is making traditional Svan hats, and of course if you wish you can also try to take part into this workshop. Later continue drive to a small family run cheese factory Narchvi Danili cheese https://sp.cheeseroute.ge/. The name of Narchvi comes from Svan language and it means gathered. The cheese is collected from August to mid-autumn, stored for winter in a special wooden box. Here you will meet the farmer, have a cheese tasting, and very authentic dinner with local products. Day 3: Chuberi – Martvili – Tbilisi

  • Breakfast and check out from guest house
  • Drive to Martvili Canyon
  • Lunch and wine tasting at Oda winery
  • Arrival in Tbilisi, end of the tour

After breakcast check out from the guesthouse and drive to Martvili. Here you will visit and explore Martvili canyon, that was formed by the Abasha river. The height of canyon, massive rocky walls covered with moss reach about 40 m. and length is about 3 km. Here you will take a boat tour to explore the canyon and waterfalls. Later continue drive to Oda winery https://odawines.ge/ , where you will have lunch and wine tasting. Keto Ninidze is running this small family winery, who had moved from Tbilisi to her family house built in 1933 and started to produce traditional Georgian wines. After lunch and wine tasting drive directly to Tbilisi, arrival in capital and end of the tour.
